Traceability & Freshness
Finca Altamira clings to the steep volcanic slopes of Nariño, where thin mountain air makes the cherries ripen slowly and densely. That hard-won density is what lets this lot take a genuinely dark roast and keep its sweetness intact. The farm's washed coffees have anchored Dark Ember since the very first batch we roasted in Dhaka.
About this product
IZH Dark Ember was one of our first single-origin dark roasts and remains a beloved fixture of the perennial range. Deep, smoky and bittersweet, it pours with a bold body, a flicker of citrus brightness beneath the roast, and a long, cocoa-dark finish. A washed lot from high-altitude Nariño gives it the density to go dark without turning ashy — proof that a proper dark roast can still taste of its origin.
Brewing tips
Use freshly boiled water rested for a minute (90–96°C), a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio, and grind just before you brew. Explore our step-by-step brewing guides for pourover, French press, moka pot and more.

About this coffee
Dark Ember exists for drinkers who want their coffee to arrive with conviction. We take a dense, high-grown washed lot from Nariño and roast it properly dark — deep, smoky and bittersweet, with a bold, weighty body and a cocoa-dark finish that stays long after the cup is done. The altitude of the lot keeps a fine thread of citrus running under the roast, so the darkness reads as richness, never as char. An original from our earliest menus, still smouldering.

Brewing Suggestions
Dark Ember shines wherever strength is a virtue: grind fine for a smoky, intense espresso, or brew a moka pot for the classic bittersweet stovetop cup. In a French press it turns broad and velvety, and with hot milk it makes the kind of no-nonsense café au lait that ends arguments.
